Some of the activities of the Chief Privacy Officer include: providing ongoing advice, guidance, and recommendations; responding to privacy breaches and complaints; and managing requests for access to information submitted under Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
The AIPO’s services include:
Awareness and training
Providing training on privacy and access to information to members of the University community.
Advisory services
Providing practical advice to ensure compliance with privacy laws, policies, and best practices.
Privacy breach response
Managing privacy breaches in accordance with the University’s privacy breach response protocol.
Privacy complaints
Reviewing and investigating privacy complaints related to the University’s collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
Access to information
Responding to general and personal information access requests under FIPPA.
Privacy impact assessment (PIA)
Conducting PIAs to help identify and manage privacy and related risks arising from new initiatives.
